Giles Martin
Giles started music production whilst writing jingles at college. In 1994 he developed and produced his first band, The K's who later signed to Sony releasing their material as Kulashaker with huge commercial success.
During this period Giles also produced Monorail's debut album and the critically acclaimed "Girl A, Girl B, Boy C" EP for My Life Story.
Whilst producing and developing bands from the UK's indie scene, Giles continued to work on and co-produce major label projects with his father, Sir George Martin, including "The Beatles Anthology" (EMI), "The Glory of Gershwin" (Mercury) and George's last album "In My Life" (Echo).
Following this early production experience and success, Giles decided to write with and produce a five-piece band in which he was the bass player, Velvet Jones. The band's debut album "Colin" was recorded in 1997 and was released on a network of independent labels in the UK, France, Germany, North American and Japan.
In between writing and touring, more production and mixing work was undertaken with artists such as Jeff Beck, Elvis Costello and Kate Bush, as well as projects as diverse as INXS's Greatest Hits package and the BBC's hit TV show, The Choir.
Between 1999 and 2002 Giles worked as in-house A&R producer at the Sony label, Instant Karma, which led to his production of the debut album by The Alice Band.
In 2003 Giles left Instant Karma and established himself as a freelance producer again producing and contributed as a writer to the chart topping debut album for the Universal artist, Hayley Westenra, "Pure" which became the most successful classical debut of all time.
In 2004, Giles commenced work alongside his father, on the production of the soundtrack for "Love" the Beatles / Cirque du Soleil show that opened in Las Vegas in June 2006. The critically acclaimed show and Grammy-winning soundtrack album have gone on to break box-office and sales records.
Giles co-runs independent music publishing company, George Martin Music, with its small roster of talented song and film score writers.
Giles also continues to work on live events and has been appointed as musical director for a number of televised live shows following a stint as Co-Musical Director for The Great Music Experience in 1995. To date, these one-off shows have seen him work in Japan, Australia, Brazil, North America, Europe and Israel for audiences in excess of 1 million including the hugely successful "Party at the Palace" concert to celebrate HM Queen's Golden Jubilee in June 2002, which he MD'd, producing the album and DVD.
Giles lives in London and to date has been awarded 2 Grammys for his production work.
